The Pilates method is a form of isometric exercises developed and practiced to simultaneously stretch, strengthen ton and align the body, while eliminating excess tension and strain on the joints. The method develops the body uniformly, corrects bad posture, lengthens and stretches the musculature, restores and increases physical vitality, stimulates the mind and elevates the spirit. Maria Leone, a former professional dancer has been teaching Pilates since 1989. Maria first encountered the work while studying dance at New York University. She has been certified to teach The Method by he Physicalmind Institute and is a Master Teacher for students apprenticing in The Method. As a personal trainer, she is certified by the American Council on Exercise and recently received recognition by IDEA as a Master Trainer. Maria's past and present clients include Jennifer Garner, Susan Dey, Debbie Allen, Gina Gershan, Stockard Channing and MTV's Serena Altschul, Maria presently owns Bodyline Fitness Studio in Beverly Hills, California.



Isometric exercise - Isometric exercise is a form of physical exercise in which the muscles flex and hold a stationary position. No movement of a load takes place, and the exercises require little in the way of equipment.

Exercise induced nausea - Exercise induced nausea is a feeling of sickness or vomiting which can occur shortly after exercise has stopped as well as during exercise itself. It may be a symptom of either over exertion during exercise, or from too abruptly ending an exercise session.

Exercise intolerance - Exercise Intolerance is a medical term used to describe a condition where the patient who is unable to do physical exercise at the level that would be expected of someone in his or her general physical condition, or who experiences unusually severe post-exercise pain, fatigue, or other negative effects. Exercise intolerance is not a disease or syndrome in and of itself, but a symptom.

Exercise hypertension - Exercise hypertension is an excessive rise in blood pressure during exercise. Many of those with exercise hypertension have spikes in systolic pressure to 250mmHg or greater.
